Dave Matthews Band comes to Gorge Amphitheatre on Friday 4th September 2020
Some bands have a kind of magic that creates community wherever they go, and Dave Matthews Band is one of those groups. Formed in 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia, the band's founding members are singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer and backing vocalist Carter Beauford, violinist and backing vocalist Boyd Tinsley, and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who sadly passed in 2008. In 1994, the group had its breakthrough with the major-label debut album, Under the Table and Dreaming, which was a worldwide hit, and eventually went six-times platinum. The streak of success has continued over the years, with the group winning a Grammy Award for the song "So Much to Say" from its seven-times platinum second studio album Crash (1996), and then releasing a string of seven consecutive studio albums that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making it the first band to do so. Not only is the band hugely successful commercially, but it is famed for its live shows, selling more than 100 million concert tickets as of 2018, and releasing a prolific 38 live albums to date. Since the 1990s, Dave Matthews Band has galvanized a loyal and enthusiastic following via its improvisation-led shows, where no two performances are the same, creating an electric and unifying atmosphere that has fans coming back again and again!
